I then mount the new neck plate in mirror image position with a single screw in the one empty hole of the tension-bearing pair just loose enough to allow rotation into final position, then I remove the remaining screw in the old neck plate to allow its removal, followed by rotating the new neck plate into final position, putting in the remaining three screws, and then tightening down all the screws, taking care that each screw gets just a little twist at a time and that our crucial tension-bearing pair gets plenty of torque. The vast majority of the tension on the neck mounting screws is on the pair of screws furthest from the bridge and nearest the nut.
